Ensemble Noir is a project-based, professional vocal ensemble whose mandate is to illuminate choral works written by or about people of colour. Founded in 2019, the ensemble is based in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, and frequently travels to different locales to disseminate music written by or about underrepresented communities. Ensemble Noir does not refer to the ethnicity of our ensemble, but rather the music that we sing and the narratives that we communicate.
L'Ensemble Noir est un ensemble vocal professionnel basé sur des projets dont le but est de célébrer des œuvres chorales écrites par ou sur des personnes de couleur. Fondé en 2019, l'ensemble est basé à Montréal, Québec, Canada, et voyage fréquemment dans différents endroits pour diffuser de la musique écrite par ou sur des communautés sous-représentées. Ensemble Noir ne fait pas référence à l'ethnicité de notre ensemble, mais plutôt à la musique que nous chantons et aux récits que nous communiquons.

Originally from Toronto, Floydd Ricketts regularly works as a musical director in theatre and in concert, having conducted performances throughout Canada, the US and Europe. He is the founder of Toronto vocal ensemble Sable 8, co-founder of the Greater Toronto Philharmonic Orchestra, and he has been described by his peers as a highly-skilled conductor and orchestrator.
Floydd regularly leads workshops on African-American Spiritual performance practice, He recently won the 2019 Montreal English Theatre Award in Musical Direction for his work in Centaur Theatre's production of Choir Boy, and is currently nominated for a Sterling Award for Outstanding Musical Direction for his work on Citadel Theatre and Royal Manitoba Theatre Company's joint production of The Color Purple.
